Topic: Review of the traditional Training Scales or Training Pyramid which is the foundation of the German Classical method of training.
The Scales involve
1. Rhythm
2. Suppleness
3. Contact
4. Impulsion
5. Straightness
Rhythm is the base of the pyramid and straightness is at the top. This discussion is looking at what the words mean and it is necessary that a horse develops in that order – it depends! Have we ever considered that the qualities outlined in the scales could be looked at internally, meaning how our horse coordinates movement, and externally, meaning how our horse executes maneuvers? This is where a lot of confusion in the training world begins!
